Clark took off from the roof of the Daily Planet, arms outstretched. His cape flapped in the wind behind him as he soared over the city, acutely aware of the sunset in the distance. It had been a successful day of work for both Clark and Superman. He had managed to get the scoop on a robbery at a gas station, which Superman of course, foiled, and aside from that there hadn’t really been any trouble in Metropolis. Honestly, he liked it better when there was nothing going on. It meant that he was making a positive difference in the world around him, and that was why he was here.
He adjusted his flight speed to a leisurely pace and casually gazed over his adoptive hometown. He remembered distinctly the first time he had flown over Metropolis like this. It had been shortly after he rescued Lois for the first time, making his first public appearance as Superman. The bird’s eye view of the greatest city in the world was simply incredible. He had been more than eager to share it with her during their first interview. He still took her flying now and again, whenever they could both find the time.
He was just considering returning to the Planet early and asking Lois to join him for another flight when his hearing picked up on a commotion a few blocks away.
”Hand over the cash!”
Sounds like a job for Superman, Clark thought to himself as he dove in that direction. Swooping through the open doors of the bank, he landed roughly on the floor and crossed his arms. A gang of seven masked men—all armed—whirled around and immediately turned their weapons on him. Clark whistled in amusement. “It appears I’m outnumbered.” he stated drily before shaking his head. “Give up now and I can guarantee you won’t have a headache.”
They all opened fire on him, and he stood his ground until he was forced back by the explosions caused by the weapons. He slammed through the wall and into the street, landing with a groan and cracking the pavement. Those aren’t normal weapons…certainly not from earth… his muddled brain reasoned as he gingerly stood up. “Intergang.” he muttered. And it looked like they were getting help from someone, because there was no way they could have produced those arms on their own. He had a feeling it was going to be one of those days again.
