((Events of this thread occur the day immediately following this thread))
Most flaws aren't visible to the naked eye, they aren't perceivably by baser senses, they must be detected through comprehensive study and the senses complimented with contemplative thought process.
All of Power Girl's flaws are such as this.
It is 8:22 A.M. the day after she nearly killed a friend of hers and destroyed this planet. She sits at her desk at Starrware Labs, in her office, on the top floor. She has a half finished cup of coffee in her hands.
They are shaking slightly.
She isn't relaxed as she usually is. Karen has a fairly carefree attitude at work, this is her playground. Most people would call her a philanthropist playing with peoples lives, but this is more than just a hobby, it's her livelihood. Clark prefers to report on the problems of the world, Karen intends on doing something about them. Her entire being is charged with energy to change this world, one tiny step at a time.
But today, she has the fear of god in her. No, not the Christian god, but fear of herself instead.
She doesn't clearly remember what happened the day prior. Brief flashes, and dream like visions, but nothing more. It's not enough to get the full story, but it is enough to know it was real, and that what ever it was, it was dangerous. She knew it had to do with the Soul Gem, she can't clearly remember who stopped her, or the details of the attacks, but she remembers being possessed, like being in a fog, only vaguely able to perceive what's going on around you. It's more an assortment of sensations than clear memories.
She's asked to be left alone, not disturbed, she's locked her office room door to enforce this and unplugged her phone. She's at work purely in body, her mind is in a far away place currently. She can scarcely handle it, she's an inch away from breaking down. Where to begin, how to begin. This Soul Gem has far more power than she'd ever imagined, and it was quietly biding it's time and Powergirl had thought she'd won, but nothing could be further from the truth.
She had allies she could lean on, people she could trust, talk to. She just had to pull herself together before she could progress. She is hoping time at work will help her clear her thoughts. She's only been here for 22 minutes, there's a whole day yet.
Elsewhere, traveling faster than the speed of light along a transluminal corridor. An intergalactic super high way between Galaxies, traveling from Oa to sector 2814, to earth, a pair of Green Lanterns go with both pride and anxiety. They are aware of who they have been sent to arrest and they are terrified of what may come, should Power Girl refuse to surrender. The Guardians are confident they have not sent their soldiers to their deaths how ever, but still. These Green Lanterns are not humans, they are aliens. One is pink with several sets of eyes, he looks brooding and aggressive, the other has six arms and less fingers per hand, her skin is green. Still generally humanoid, of course. They are weary of humans, earthlings. They cause so much trouble, and their Rings tell them as far as Earthlings go, Karen Starr is among the most powerful in the universe.
"Covex, We will be arriving soon. I understand Karen Starr values her secret identity among other earthlings, we should construct telephones to contact Karen Starr and ask her to meet us some where as Power Girl before we arrive. In the, ah, interest of diplomacy, and perhaps, saving our own skins."
"What is a Telephone, Gigi?"
"Some kind of primitive communication device that is commonly used for long distance communication on Earth. I learned of it through the archives on Oa from information recorded by Hal Jordan's ring."
"Eugh... If you wish, I will not be doing that."
"Covex, I do not want to make her angry. We may be Honor Guard, but she is a fully developed well exposed Kryptonian in the later stages of Power absorption. A world Killer. She could turn is unto pulp!"
"Gigi, you let me worry about that, make contact, we are almost there."
"Covex, your abrasive approach to situations is going to get us killed one day"
Covex does not respond with words, but instead he grunts. Gigi isn't amused, but she would not have any one else at her side for this mission.
Meanwhile, Back at Starrlabs. Karen's Starrphone begins ringing. It's set to silent, so really her ear rings just vibrate a bit, nothing major, it doesn't take much to alert her to it. She considers ignoring it. There will be no Power Girl today. She would rather call Clark in, before showing herself as Power girl again. There were not technologically adept witnesses to what she had done, everybody she'd affected could not have reported it to any greater government if she wanted to. These were third world people. That's probably for the best.
Against her better judgment, she answers it any way.
"Karen Starr Speaking."
With any luck it's not Nick reporting a disturbance. Thankfully it isn't, unfortunately, it's much worse.
"Power Girl, this is Lantern Gigi of sector 3127, I am accompanied by Lantern Covex of sector 2921, we have been instructed by the guardians of the universe to arrest you for your attack on the planet earth and the potential threat you represent to the entire universe while in possession of the Soul Gem. Please be aware we have been instructed to use Lethal force, but are extending you the courtesy of turning yourself in and coming peacefully. Please meet us over New York City in the upper stratosphere in the next thirty seconds if you are willing to comply."
And then the call ends. Karen is not given the chance to respond. Her stomach turns to knots, This was much much worse than she could have imagined it. Thankfully, she has a stronger will than most people give her credit. It's this potent will that keeps her from puking her guts up, and guides her to do the right thing.
She's going to turn herself in.
