Character basics:
Real name: Koyuki Xavier
Code name: Gemstone
Date of Birth: December 10
Place of Birth: Tokyo
Age: 16
Known family: Professor Charles Xavier, father. Natsumi Nishizawa, mother, age 43, genetisist at Central Tokyo University, has minor empathy abilities that didn't manifest until early adulthood. Fuyuki, twin brother, telepath.
The Reflection in the mirror:
Hair: red
Eyes: the same bright blue as her father's
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 130 lbs
Legal Status: Minor
Occupation: Student at the Xavier School
Affiliation: X-Men
Abilities: Koyuki's abilities center around crystals; specifically, blue quartz crystal. She is able to form the crystal from particles in the air and control them with her very limited telekinetic abilities. She can form weapons with them, with practice, and use the crystals as projectile weapons. It is easier for her to create more crystals from a base crystal than it is to form them from virtually nothing, because it takes her a while to remember what the bonds are.
Her secondary ability is the ability to cause her bones to grow from her fingers and fire them as projectiles. However, this is limited just to her fingers, and the bones turn into blue quartz once the projectile bones break from the main bones. This process causes Koyuki intense pain, and as such she will only use this when she has no other option.
Koyuki also has a few passive abilities. Her memory is incredible, and if she focuses on her memories while gazing into a blue quartz crystal, she can remember the specifics of what happened to her on any specific day in her past. She is able to do this in a relatively similar way with other people, but when using her recollection ability on another person, she only gets feint glimpses of a person's past or future. If she sees an event in a person's past, she can see a few specifics of the incident, including the other people involved and time of day. When attempting to see a person's future, she can only feel vague emotions, such as pain or saddness, or a major event such as a betrayal.
Koyuki also has healing abilities. This is centered on her hands like her projectile bone ability, but it also affects the rest of her body. It reduces healing time by about half on everything except her hands, which usually heal within minutes and expell foreign objects that might get into an injury.
Her senses were enhanced by her near-death experience when the Professor contacted her the day of the pool party while she was sixteen. She can tell the differences between people by smell alone, and her hearing is so sensitive now that she can hear people walking toward her from a good 400 or so meters away, less if the room is loud, further if the room is silent.
Though yet to discover, Koyuki is also a Dreamwalker. She can enter the dreams of others when awake, and does sometimes do so when asleep. One of the few telepathic abilities Koyuki has, when awake she must be in physical contact with the person who's dream she wishes to enter. When asleep, there is almost no restriction on her Dreamwalking ability. However, this puts a strain on her mind, which causes her to be unable to wake until the connection is severed. Even then, when she does wake, her other powers are less reliable for a good amount of time after, extending to a few days depending on the distance. This is the only time her recognitive abilities fail.
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Koyuki is a rather quiet girl who has a love of sports and books. She doesn't like leading, prefering to follow others unless she absolutely has to take the lead. She is a very capable leader who simply dislikes the pressures of leading. She is very responsible, almost always getting done what she needs to do.
Koyuki is a very athletic girl who is on a sports team every season, and a different one each year. The only one she's really stuck with is archery and martial arts, giving those two preference over pretty much everything else. She is now an expert marksman, having been an archer since her first year of middle school about four years ago.
Koyuki loves her twin more than anything. Except maybe her mother. She has a bit of distrust toward her father, who she sees as not wanting anything to do with them after he left Natsumi in Tokyo. She doesn't realize that Natsumi never told Charles about the twins that she had, nor that they were his.
Koyuki was always the girl who was picked for class rep, in charge of coordinating things like the cultural festival with the other classes at her high school in Tokyo. She loves the festivals of her native culture, and is not hesitant to share said culture with anyone who happens to be interested. She's even brought an extra kimono from home in case she met someone who happened to be interested in the Japanese ways.
History: Natsumi was a graduate student at Central Tokyo University when her empathy abilities first manifested. This occurance drew the attention of famed mutant rights activist Charles Xavier, who hadn't yet encountered someone who's powers manifested after adolescence. He came to Tokyo on the pretense of checking their data on mutants in the area, which happened to be at the genetics lab where Natsumi was getting work-study. He stayed longer than anticipated, having decided to stay and help the young woman gain control over her powers. He assessed her abilities, realizing that her abilities were not strong enough for her to need to leave Tokyo and return to New York with him in order for her to gain control. He stayed an extra year, but hadn't expected to develop feelings for this woman. He left, but returned again about two years after that, stayed for a few months, and left. He hadn't known what he was leaving behind, or he might have insisted that Natsumi return to New York with him.
Natsumi soon gave birth to twins, a girl and then a boy. As they were born in winter, she named the children after the snow, with a simple change in only the first sillable from one name to the other. She knew in her heart that the children would have powers of some kind, which was the inevitable outcome as their father was one of the strongest telepaths in the world.
The pair looked almost like identical twins when they were younger, but Koyuki's hair was always red, and Fuyuki's hair was brown. Other than that, the twins looked surprisingly alike. The few differences in their early school years were that Koyuki was all-around good at seemingly everything, while Fuyuki tended to be pushed to the background. This kind of thing went on through elementary school.
In third year of elementary school, the equivilant of third grade for Americans, Koyuki's class had a transfer student in the first few weeks of the term. The girl's name was Ayame, and she was a transfer from Japan's largest island of Hokkaido, and, Koyuki being the class rep, had to show Ayame around for a few weeks. The two became fast friends, and they were ecstatic when they were in the same class the next year and the year after that.
When it came time to take middle school entrance exams, Koyuki and Fuyuki got into the same school, one not too far from their home but farther away than ther elementary school was. Ayame and Koyuki were in the same class again, while Fuyuki was actually in a different class. This gave Fuyuki a chance to stand out.
It was only a week or so after the start of their first year of middle school(7th grade in America) when Koyuki realized that she was a bit different. She could remember things that happened to her when she was little, things that Fuyuki couldn't remember. She loved gems of all kinds, specifically blue quartz crystals. She found a pendant in a gift shop on a field trip, and found that her memory was even stronger when she wore it. She admitted this to her mother, who began to wonder if her daughter's abilities were linked to the crystal. She finally decided to write to the Professor about the twins, asking for advice about Koyuki's memory ability. He wrote back saying that memory powers were usually harmless, especially if it only affected the person themselves, and that there was no reason to worry.
During the first Athletic festival, Fuyuki and Koyuki were on opposite teams and competing against each other, which was a first for them. Fuyuki was doing an opstacle course when he collided with some of the other competitors. His powers manifested in a big flash, causing him to pass out from the headache the sudden influx of other thoughts caused. Again, Natsumi wrote to the Professor about the best way to help her son with his telepathic powers. Professor X told her that the best option was to send Fuyuki to his school in America, where he could personally teach the boy how to control his powers. The transfer happened just after the end of term, during the break, and left Koyuki feeling strangely alone. They were twelve when Fuyuki moved to America to live with the other mutant children at the Xavier Institute.
Koyuki still participated in sports, but it wasn't with her normal vigour. Not at first. A few months later, she began to forget that Fuyuki wasn't with her. It was only when December came around that she felt sad about it. She became a key member of the archery team and the martial arts club, but something still just felt... Wrong.
Nothing much happened after that. Not until just before high school. She'd gotten accepted into one of the best high schools in the area, but she'd been noticing that her memory was getting even better than normal. She could look at something once and never forget it. When she looked into her crystal pendant, she could sometimes see things that hadn't happened to her... She told her mother about this, and Natsumi decided that sending Koyuki to the Xavier Institute was a good idea. Charles, she decided, would know more about mutant powers than she did. So, she sent a letter to the school, then sent Koyuki there by plane about two weeks later. Koyuki stayed out of school for those two weeks, packing the things she knew she would need over in America. She's due to arive at the school any minute.
Her crystaline powers have, for the majority, not yet manifested.

Koyuki sighed, one foot up on the swing. Next to her sat her friend Ayame, one of the few people in school who understood how she felt. She'd been in the same class as Ayame since they were third year elementary students, and they lived right next door to each other. Koyuki often found herself telling Ayame her problems.
"At least you understand how it is to not have a father," she said after a moment. "The other girls just don't get it. Mom has to work extra to get money to pay for the house and food... I may end up having to get a job over the winter break, at this rate."
"I know how that is," Ayame replied.
"I mean, I want to help out mom in whatever way I can, and maybe getting a job is the way to do it..."
"Listen to me for a sec Koyuki," Ayame ordered. "If you get a job, you're probably going to have to give up archery, martial arts, and whatever other sports you wanted to do this year. Do you really want that?"
"If it'll help mom, I'll do it... Whether I like it or not."
"Nee-chan, if you want to do sports, I can get a job to help mom out."
Koyuki twirled the swing around to face the park entrance and was not at all surprised to see her twin brother there. Despite being twins, she'd gotten into a slightly better high school than he had, but they both ended up running into each other at this corner.
"You would do that?" she asked, surprised.
"Yeah," Fuyuki said with a shrug. "It's not like I do anything after school except study in the library anyways."
Koyuki stood, bag in hand, and threw herself around her twin. She had a smile on her face, ecstatic that he'd offered to get a job to let her continue doing the things she loved. "Thanks Fuyuki. You're amazing."
"It's not a big deal, Koyuki-nee," he replied, brushing off her compliment. Koyuki just laughed, then turned to Ayame.
"See you tomorrow!" she said with a wave before heading down the street to her house.
Suddenly, a sharp noise brought her back to reality. Her alarm clock. She was confused for a moment, then remembered. And remembering made her sad. Fuyuki had gone to America four years ago... She would just get a present from him in the mail, and she would just send one to him through the mail. Man... If only she could go to America with him...
