Days passed and Faith tried to patrol as she could, pestering Giles to let her even if he stayed home. She didn't like the disappearing acts anymore than he did and though she didn't know what was happening she did know she needed to stop it. Being a Slayer put that need into her blood and she could not resist it. She no longer tried to even though she was tired of the fight. She was tired of the struggle of winning and losing and never seeing any real difference. A Hellmouth vanished but could she say the world was better off?
They hadn't really touched since that night those she still did sleep in bed with him and found herself pressed close in the morning when she woke. It was a strange thing for her but as the nights wore on she was starting to get used to the sensation of being next to someone even to the point where she slept accepting she'd be near by him daybreak. She even started to try and keep his sleep schedule, going to bed earlier than she was used to to try and get up earlier. It was unfamiliar and at times confusing but the morning she woke up spooned against him she didn't immediately jerk away. Instead she lay there in the morning light and wondered at it.
It didn't feel bad, exactly, his arm carelessly thrown over her body. She felt how she meshed with him, her back pressed to his strong chest. She frowned, thoughtful, and didn't move right away. She didn't want to wake him if he was sleeping but eventually the day wore on and they both had to get up to face it. Neither mentioned the incident but it stayed on her mind to the point of distraction. When he mentioned patrolling she nodded without really hearing him until a minute later.
"You think you're up to it?"
She'd been very careful with him over the past few days making sure he wasn't strained in his recovery. He didn't have her healing to fall back on. She let him move about as he felt better and as his bruises faded but she never wandered too far from him, doting on him without thinking whenever she could. It was only natural to her to do this, never having anyone to dote on in her life and wanting to somewhere deep inside.
"We can go out." She agreed at last, knowing both of them wanted to figure out what was causing these disappearances so they could make it stop. "Just stick close."
Not that he had a chance of going anywhere without her being close behind.
She strapped up, sliding stakes into appropriate places wondering what it was causing this mess. She wondered if they'd ever talk about anything they were going through, too, or whether it was all just a fluke of being thrown into the same house. Whatever it was not talking about it, not clarifying, was frustrating her in a new confounding way and soon it would boil over to a point where she could not bite it back and she honestly had no idea what she'd say when that happened.
