◾Longevity/Fearlessness: Dr. Strange's lifespan has been extended and his fear of dying subsided in a manner similar to that of his mentor the Ancient One, due to a successful contest against Death. Though he can still be killed and even physically wounded he cannot succumb to any medical diseases. Doc passed a test by the Ancient One and defeated Death, or more accurately, accepted Death. As a result, from that moment forward, Doc stopped aging. "Death may come only from without, in battle-- and not from within." The Ancient One had once passed the same test himself, and lived 600 years. From that moment forward, a glowing ankh appears on Doc's forehead when he is in a situation of great danger and his death is imminent, "when he most needs a reaffirmation of life.”
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Stephan Strange is a calm, intellectual. He is externally strong willed and determined, willing to go to any length including and not limited to staring down Gods, while standing alone, when he believes in what he is fighting for. While he has power enough to face the highest threats, he is never cruel, and brings only the amount of power needed to bring hostilities to a close, even if he could more quickly just bring the entirety of his skills to bear.
He also is full of the mercy of compassion, willing to forgive quickly, help redeem others and protect strangers. This partly stems from the person he used to be, and the all too well known fact people can change.
Doctor Strange’s word is his law, if he has promised something, he will uphold his end of the bargain no matter how distasteful he may find what is required of him, bar the obvious exception of if what he had promised is twisted or somehow hidden from him for evil purposes.
Strange can enter periods of manipulating others, or acting too sure of himself, and has occasionally crossed a line in order to protect the earth, a tendency that has frightened him enough to give up his title of Sorcerer Supreme more than once.
History: Stephen Strange was born to Eugene and Beverly Strange in 1930 while the couple was vacationing in Philadelphia. Early in life he found himself with an interest in medicine, the idealism he held in it however was quickly eroded when he failed to save his sister from drowning on his nineteenth birthday, and became more cynical.
Stephen earned his medical degree in record time and entered a five-year residency at New York Hospital, where his rapid success made him arrogant. The death of his Mother making him only more detached from his job, even as he became richer and more skilled as he reached thirty.
Egotistical and greedy, cold and callous, Strange's interest in his patients generally began and ended at his bill[1]. The exception was Madeleine Revell, an injured United Nations translator whom he saved and fell in love with. Following a whirlwind romance and proposal, she left him due to his increasingly materialistic nature. Two years after his mother's death, Strange's father, Eugene also fell ill. Already crippled by grief over his mother's death (though he would never admit it), Stephen was unable to face any more tragedy, and refused to visit Eugene's deathbed. A few days later, an outraged Victor confronted Stephen in his apartment over his apparent lack of grief. Following the confrontation, Victor rushed from the apartment and into the path of an oncoming car. Victor died, and a guilt-wracked Stephen placed Victor's body in cold storage, half-hoping that future breakthroughs could revive him, later accidently turning his brother into a vampire during such an attempt.
Around 1963, Strange was in a car accident. Though surgeons were able to save Strange, the nerves in his hands were severely damaged[1]. With his surgical career over and too vain to accept positions as a consultant or assistant, Strange exhausted his fortune following every rumoured treatment, no matter how ineffective. In a matter of months the once wealthy surgeon became a derelict.
After hearing rumours of the mystical Ancient One, Strange pawned his last possessions for a ticket to the East. Strange found the Ancient One's Tibetan palace, but the aged sorcerer refused to cure him, instead offering to teach him in mysticism. Strange refused, but couldn't leave immediately due to a sudden blizzard. While staying for the duration of the storm, Strange witnessed the Ancient One's apprentice, Baron Mordo, secretly attack the teacher with mystically summoned skeletons, which the old man easily dispelled. Strange, Deciding that the only way to stop Mordo was to learn magic himself in order to challenge Mordo on his terms, Strange accepted the Ancient One's offer. Pleased by Strange's acceptance for unselfish reasons, he took him as his student and planned to make him his successor. Strange spent years training in magic, and soon stepped into the role of protecting Earth from many different threats, mostly magical in nature but sometimes stepping in on more mundane threats.
slowly Strange started to associate more and more with the Superheroes, eventually becoming one of them. he started the Defenders, along with Namor the Hulk and Silver Surfer. and years later helped found the Midnight Sons.
When journeying to the Dark dimension to prevent Dormammu from invading, he met and fell in love with Clea, a mystic of the dimension, who came to live with him and would one day become his wife. Sadly she eventually had to return to her home to help protect the people there, causing the two to separate.
Strange also joined the Illuminati, a secret group of the most powerful and influential heroes to aid in the prevention of threats where possible. Even though in the end they caused the Secret invasion to become possible for the Skrulls.
Strange stayed out of the Civil war but came to regret that, and aided the renegade Avengers with every way he could. However his overuse of power during world war hulk made him leave the team and give up his title. Something he has only just regained after finding the control and power needed to be the Master of the Mystic Arts once more.
The cosmos was so vast, and indescribably varied in it’s infinite reach that it took his breath away still, even after all these decades of staring into it, to be able to feel the way magic swam through the entirety of the universe still made even the legendary Doctor Strange feel humbled, it was a good feeling, and he welcomed it as a reminder to never let his guard down. His lips curled into a satisfied smile as he found no trace of a threat approaching, he knew his vision was not perfect (and to even call it vision was not quite perfect, but as close as a description could get) but he felt nothing, no invaders from the billions of brightly shining stars, and no horrors or creatures testing the walls between dimensions. It was far too rare a feeling for everything to be well, and he enjoyed it as he gently descended from the position of floating cross legged three feet in the air, to the ground.
Carefully, and with great reverence, he removed his cloak of levitation and placed it securely on its stand, while the Eye of Agamotto remained, as the familiar and comforting weight around his neck. With a small gesture of his right hand, the cup of tea Wong had left out for him floated off its tray and gently into his hand. Taking a sip, Strange sighed contently, before turning on the lights and finding a book to enjoy during what would almost certainly turn out to be a calm between storms.
Not that the idea bothered him, Strange thought with amusement, he would after all hate for life to get too boring.
