What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Steve Rogers, for the most part, is courageous, loyal, patriotic, with qualities of decency and honesty. He is nearly too brave for his own good. Before he was changed into a super soldier, he used to get beat up by bullies almost everyday, but he always stood up to them no matter what, and even though they obviously got the best of him physically, he never backed down or ran away from them. He was always too brave to run away, and believed that standing your ground was the best decision, even if the instant consequence was pain. Due to being so courageous, he's always ready to meet any challenge or fight in direct confrontation, without hesitation or surrendering. Steve doesn't know how to surrender, he's just too brave to do so, and will take any measure to get the task done as long as it means securing his allies and innocent people from threat of danger.
Instances of his courageousness, for example, was when he once attempted to sacrifice himself to stop Red Skull’s plane from destroying a populated area. Another example being the incident with the dummy grenade, during his training, was a clear illustration of the courage he possesses. The other recruits scattered away in fear for their lives, but Steve didn't hesitate, and jumped directly on the grenade trying to cover the expected blast with his body while warning everyone to get away.
One of his more notable qualities is his sense of patriotism. He loves his country, his home town, and would do anything to protect them both, to serve and defend his country. He is fiercely loyal to his allies, his fellow soldiers, and his country. If you are on his side, then you are all right by him, and he will always treat you with fairness and respect. He's also loyal to himself, never letting his new-found strength or power, or his celebrity status, change who he was. He has remained a good man, loyal to his beliefs and values. Steve believes in treating others as equals, valuing them for their skill and capabilities rather than who they are or where they come from.
He believes the world should be just, and fair, and that people need to be protected from those who use power to hurt. He’s an honest man, earnest, traditional. He’s one of the few cases where a man’s outward presentation matches his inner drives and motivations. He wears his heart on his sleeve and has no hidden depths or agendas. What you see is what you get, and what you see is a man aware of his own power, conscientious in how he uses it, a man full of compassion and the drive to set things right, and a man willing to do whatever it takes to bring liberty and justice to all.
History: Steven Grant Rogers, better known as Captain America, is the son of Sarah and Joseph Rogers. The Star Spangled Avenger was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 4th, 1918. He grew up during the Great Depression. His father served as an Army soldier who fought and died in the First World War. He idolized his father for his patriotism. At a young age, his mother, who was a nurse, died of tuberculosis. Steve became a young orphan and soon began getting attacked by bullies in Hell’s Kitchen. Despite his small stature, Steve always had a brave heart and never ran away from bullies. He always fought them back, even though he would get beat up every time. Steve's courage inspired another young man, named James "Bucky" Barnes to come to his aid and help fight off the bullies. The two eventually became best friends, since James always took up for Steve and helped him against bullies, plus James was the only friend that Steve had at the time.
A few years passed by, when during an art class, Steve and Bucky found out that America had joined the Second World War. Soon after, Bucky began to train Steve at a gym called, Goldie’s Boxing Gym. One day after training, they visited the US Recruiting and Induction Center in New York where Steve was classified as 4F, which resulted in him getting ejected from service. He continued trying to register in different cities, but kept getting rejected every time because of his poor health and condition.
It was after the United States had already entered the war, that Steve tried again to enlist in the US Army to help fight the battle in Europe against the Nazis, but he was once again rejected. Steve never gave up hope, and when he and Bucky attended the Worlds Fair before Bucky would be sent off in the Army to fight in the war, an Allied German scientist, named Abraham Erskine overheard their conversation about Steve wanting to help in the war. Erskine admired his spirit and tenacity, and signed Steve up for "Project: Rebirth".
Erskine introduced himself to Steve, informing him about "Project: Rebirth", which was designed to create the perfect soldier to fight the Axis powers. Steve, realizing this as an opportunity for him to help fight in the war, agreed to Erskine's plan. Steve underwent regulatory military training and was selected when he proved to be brave enough, which he proved by willing to sacrifice his life by throwing himself on a dummy grenade, which he believed was live. The experiment had been a success and Steve was then pushed to the peak of human ability. After the operation was completed a HYDRA saboteur, named Heinz Kruger, assassinated Erskine and henceforth prevented the creation of any more Super Soldiers.
Steve, now a super soldier, used his new-found abilities to stop Heinz Kruger. It was around that time Steve met an English military officer named, Peggy Carter. She was assigned to watch over his progress. Just when Steve thought he would now be able to help fight the war on the front lines, he was denied recruitment in the Army. Instead, he was used as a propaganda tool. Steve, without being recruited, decided that he would accept the responsibility of saving allied soldiers from imprisonment from his nemesis, the Red Skull. Steve successfully saved the allied soldiers, which gained him fame and respect among the Army soldiers. A short time later, Steve assembled his own military unit, called the Howling Commandos. The Howling Commandos battled HYDRA across Nazi-occupied Europe. During a later mission, Captain America and Bucky boarded a HYDRA train on their way to Red skull's current base in the Alps.
Captain America and Bucky engaged in an intense fight with HYDRA agents, which resulted in the side of the train being blown out that caused Bucky to fall to his supposed death. Captain America had a final battle with the Red Skull and HYDRA in the Alps, but Red Skull essentially disappeared when grasping hold of a mysterious powerful artifact known as, the Tesseract. The Tesseract was allegedly forged by the Asgardians. Steve, while speaking with Peggy over Red Skull's jet communications, crash-landed into Antarctica before it could destroy cities around the world. The result of Steve's courageous act left him preserved in the ice for nearly seventy years. After being preserved in ice for nearly seven decades, Nick Fury's ongoing search for Steve had been a success, since SHIELD eventually found him still preserved in ice. Agent Coulson, who is a great fan of Captain America, had to be calmed down by Fury over the possibility of meeting the WWII hero. Steve was then defrosted and kept in a simulated 1940's environment to try and ease him into being apart of the 21st century.
However, when Steve awoke, he quickly realized that the simulated 1940's environment wasn't real, because he remembered the baseball game being played on the radio next to him. He remembered it, because he was actually in attendance. Confused about what was going on, Steve escaped into the streets of 21st century Manhattan, New York. He was shocked standing in Times Square, but was immediately met by Nick Fury who informed him that he had been "asleep" for nearly 70 years.
After being defrosted for a mere week, Steve found himself lost in a world that had moved on without him. He found it very difficult to adjust to the modern world. Approaching Steve with a mission to save the world, Fury informed him that the Asgardian mischief-god known as Loki had stolen the Tesseract. In addition Fury informed Steve on Loki's motives, mentioning that the Asgardian mischief-god intended to use the Tesseract to rule and conquer Earth. Steve wasn't delighted in the slightest to learn that HYDRA's secret weapon and power source had found its way into the modern era.
Agent Coulson, a loyal Captain America fanboy, finally had the opportunity to meet Steve. This was the first time Steve experienced stardom from being a World WarII hero and was now a celebrity figure. After meeting Agent Coulson, Steve met his future Avenger allies Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner. Dr. Banner being an intelligent scientist tried to recreate the super-soldier serum, but instead created the Hulk. Steve was given a new uniform, then was sent to Suttgard, Germany. It was there that Captain America met Loki.
Captain America had arrived just in time to save a group of war veterans from Loki and battled the Asgardian mischief-god, but found himself in a stalemate. Captain America had to be rescued by another Avenger, Iron Man (Tony Stark), the son of Howard Stark. Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) showed up next to assist in rescuing Captain America via the Avenger's Quinjet. After Loki was captured, the three Avengers attempted to take the Asgardian mischief-god back to the SHIELD Hellicarrier, but on their way back Thor emerged in an attempt to take Loki back to Asgard. Thor's actions caused a fight with Iron Man, which Captain America had to break up. Thor attempted to strike Captain America with his mystical hammer Mjolnir, but Captain America protected himself from the blow with his unbreakable shield. After the fight ended, Captain America made a truce with Thor.
Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Steve found himself taking up a leadership position, because he and Tony had an intense argument between the two of them. Steve was upset by the discovery that S.H.I.E.L.D. had plans to use the energy of the Tesseract to build weapons as a deterrent against extraterrestrials. The Helicarrier was then attacked by the Chitauri and a possessed Hawkeye (Clint Barton), while the Avengers argued over how to confront the imprisoned Loki and the differences between them. Steve then had to assist Tony in restarting a failed engine.
Loki escaped imprisonment, and after Agent Coulson's supposed death by the Asgardian mischief-god himself, in addition to learning of the Avengers Initiative, led Steve and Tony to make the decision of ending the Avengers' association with S.H.I.E.L.D.. The Avengers, led by Captain America, battled against the Chitauri invasion on New York. The Avengers battled against Loki as well and won after he had been hindered by the Hulk. Thor was greeted farewell by Steve and the other Avengers before he took Loki and the Tesseract back to Asgard. Steve rode off on his motorcycle to discover the modern world he was now a part of, while realizing when the next level of catastrophe would occur, The Avengers would assemble once again.
Speedily driving throughout Manhattan on his custom WWII Harley-Davison motorcycle, Captain America found himself chasing after a group of Hydra agents bold and daringly. Crime in Manhattan was very common, even before the Chitauri's invasion, and it had only gotten worse since Loki's attack. Crime wasn't just in Manhattan alone, as the entire state of New York had become a hotbed of crime nowadays, therefore Hydra being be involved in criminal activity in New York was not unexpected.
Hydra had spread worldwide, and Cap despised that, due to Hydra's main purpose which was global domination. It was their main purpose during the war and the Great Depression, and it still is to this day, therefore it seems that some things haven't changed since then. Here Cap was chasing after Hydra agents throughout Manhattan just as he did Heinz Kruger, who shot and killed Dr. Abraham Erskine.
In pursuit, Captain America grabbed his shield and gripped it tightly in the grasp of his right hand, while simultaneously keeping pace with the Hydra agents. He set his aim on the driver side rear tire, then launched the shield, causing the shield to slice through the air swiftly as the Vibranium-metal alloy met the rubber tire and wheel, which was no match for Cap's shield. The shield sliced through the wheel and caused a chain reaction; the tire exploded, which made the vehicle lose control, causing the vehicle to flip and become badly damaged, before finally coming to a halt.
"Hail Hydra! Immortal Hydra! Cut off a limb and two more shall take its place!" The Hydra agent shouted loudly in a hostile manner, climbing out of the wreckage. He was bruised and bloodied, most likely the only one still conscious and alive. "Not today," Captain America remarked confidently, displaying his patriotism to protect his home and the people of New York. He struck the Hydra agent with his shield, knocking him out cold instantly. Battling Loki and Hydra, the past and the present, Cap wondered what the future will behold now that there were so many enemies in the world. As the police arrived, Cap drove away on his motorcycle, driving throughout New York. He parked his motorcycle and peacefully directed his gaze toward the Statue of Liberty feeling nostalgic for the past.
