What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Cruel, vindictive, sadistic, a nihilistic terrorist. Viper is a woman without a heart. She feels no love or affection for anyone, though there may be one exception to that rule. But, for the most part, Viper cares for nothing other than herself. She is not above using people, no matter what it's for. She will lie, cheat, seduce, and steal in order to achieve her goals. Having lived for ninety two years, she has grown cold and bitter, never one to laugh at something unless it's something that tickles her twisted sense of humor.
Something to note, Viper is often subject to polarized mental states. She can be exceedingly rational and calculating, remaining cool under pressure and often goad opponents into anger one moment, while giving in to fits of rage and near insanity, throwing caution to the wind, the next. It’s not known what causes such shifts in her personality, possibly due to childhood trauma, the opiates she sometimes uses to sleep, or a combination of other factors.
Though it was previously stated that she has no love for others, the case regarding Jessica Drew is an odd one. She both despises her to her very core, yet has shown, on certain occasions, the need to save her. Whether Jessica is or isn’t her daughter is unsure (Jessica looked enough like Viper to escape a HYDRA base without much fuss), and Viper doesn’t seem too eager to learn the truth, or tell Jessica, if she knows.
History: Born in Hungary in the 1920's, the girl who would become Viper, watched at the age of five as her country, city, home, and family were torn apart by rebellion and revolution. Her parents were murdered and her sisters were violated before meeting the same gruesome fate. Young Ophelia was lucky enough to escape that sort of demise, however, while crossing the Hungarian border, she fell victim to a land mine, giving her the infamous scar that covers most of the right side of her face.
Taken in by the organization known as HYDRA, Ophelia quickly rose through the ranks, using decisive, quick, and often times both brutal and lethal, tactics that would soon earn her the name Viper. Though she is one of the heads of HYDRA, overseeing the New York branch, Viper has always been one to do a bit of freelance work, whether terrorist related or simply for her own enjoyment. This has earned her the ire of many a group of superheroes, including the Avengers, and individuals like Wolverine, Spider-Woman, and Captain America. However, it has also earned her no favors with the likes of the Red Skull, whom she once embezzled money from to fund her own plans of destroying America.
Throughout her unusually long life, Viper has had luck, both ill and good. She practically owns the island nation of Madripoor, and has connections with Clan Yashida through Kenuichiro Harada. She has partnered with Norman Osborn, the Hand, and the Hellfire Club in the past, but even those alliances have proved to be useless or ill-fated in its result. Even HYDRA once turned on her, much to her shock and surprise. More often than not, the only person Viper can truly rely on is herself.

Harold Newton sat nervously in a chair across from the woman, wondering why he had been called into the office this early in the morning. She smiled at the man, a small, closed lipped smile that didn't quite reach her dark eyes, as she gently paged through the folder on her desk.
"And how are you finding you work with us, Mr. Newton? Not too stressful? Getting along with your coworkers?" she asked courteously as he sipped on a glass of water.
"Oh yes, Ms. Smith, I'm doing great here. Fitting in quite well."
"That's always nice to hear. We like to look after people. Keep an eye on everyone, as it were," she reassured him. Harold coughed unexpectedly.
"An eye on them?" he asked, drinking more water, his throat suddenly feeling dry and tight, constrictive.
"Oh yes. We kept an eye on you as soon as you started working. We watched your name when it gave our database a quite curious notification." Harold's leg spasmed, jerking out in front of him oddly. Ms. Smith continued, paying no attention. "We watched you sell off vital HYDRA information to a double agent." His body was now racked with twitching and spasms as he tried to stay still in the chair, unable to speak.
"And now, I'm watching you die, Mr. Newton." Viper leaned forward, smirking, her green fingernail tapping the water glass. "It's a rare neurotoxin. Fast acting, no cure. I'm surprised you lasted this long. You've likely less than five seconds of life left." She sat back as the remaining light left the man's eyes. With that, Viper simply closed Harold Newton's folder, already stamped 'Terminated'.
