What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality:
Frankly, Deathstroke is a jerk, he was always a cocky and arrogant prick and he will remain so until the day he dies. He hates almost everything for no apparent reason and he seems to hate people the most and that's probably the reason why he likes killing so much...
Deathstroke does his best to try and make things logical seeing that emotions can get in the way of business and this was proved right time and time again. One time Deathstroke let a target live because he had a family to return to and the penalties that came with that action were grave. Ever since that day things changed for him, he didn't even let the target say a word to him and all the information he asked were all on a need-to-know base.
Even though he tells himself he doesn't care about his ex-wife, he still thinks about her and his son and daughter. It's been a few years since his ex-wife died and even more since he last laid eyes on any of his children, but he put that life behind him, he is a mercenary after all and people tend to hold grudges when someone close to them gets killed, so to prevent any misshapes Deathstroke decided it was best if his wife and children would cease to see him.
Deathstroke is mostly a lone wolf, he doesn't need or want anyone assisting him. He takes his job rather seriously, if the target is eliminated by anyone but him, he will hunt the one that killed his prey down and make him/her wish they had never done that.
The image of his former life still haunts him to this day, he longs for his family, but he cannot return to them, even if they wanted him back it would be too big of a risk, so that shows Deathstroke's human side and his weakness. Plus the image of Wintergreen still appears before him in his mind every once in a while, something that he dislikes greatly since it was his fault his best friend died.
Deathstroke also hates authority; he defies it with everything he's got. As a mercenary he has the right to do so seeing that he is the one that does the job... This aspect of his personality makes people who hire him hate him so much.
History:
Slade was the son of a Sargent and ever since he was little, he dreamed of becoming just like his father. He was not the only one excited with this idea, his father was obviously proud about this and when Slade finally became sixteen, his father enlisted him in the army.
At first it was tough. The army life proved challenging and the constant yells didn't make it any easier, but after a few years, Slade was finally a corporal and was sent to serve his country by serving a stint in Korea. Later he was assigned to Camp Washington where he was promoted to Major and where he would meet Captain Adeline Kane, his future wife. She was astonished by Slades technique and soon they would fall in love. She started to train him and with her help Slade mastered all forms of fighting that could be learn in the American army and soon he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. A few months then Slade got married to Adeline and she became pregnant with their first child. When the Vietnam war began Slade was shipped overseas, so he missed the birth of his first son, Grant.
After the war, Slade became obsessed with getting even better so he enlisted in a medical experiment designed to stimulate his adrenal gland in the hopes of increasing a soldier's ability to resist truth serums, against his family wishes. The experiment did not go as expected and Slade slipped in a coma.
A few months after he awakened at the military hospital, but something changed in him, he somehow gained physical and mental abilities that where way beyond great. He could tap 90% of his brain functions and he could do amazing things, like lifting cars and run at 30 mph. He also became more aware of his surroundings. After his doctors tested him to see if he was ready to leave the hospital, he tried returning to the army but was denied.
Feeling that he should use his powers for something he became a mercenary and started taking hits. He told his wife he became a safari hunter so she wouldn't suspect the large amount of money Slade would receive. Although Slade gained some powerful enemies due to this. One day, a hitman destroyed his home and kidnapped their second son, Joseph. His wife asked why and he had no choice but to tell her. Adopting the black and orange suit he swore vendetta on those that defiled his home and kidnapped his offspring.
After some skulls were smashed, he finally found out who kidnapped his son, unfortunately when he confronted the kidnapper he gambled a bit, thinking he could kill him before he could have the chance of killing his son. Joseph got his throat cut and was rushed to the hospital. He was saved although his vocal cords were cut. Enraged Adeline grabbed her gun and shot Slade in the right eye.
He soon abandoned that life and forged a new path out of blood and steel, becoming a gun for hire, leaving only a path of destruction that cost many their lives, including his first born son and his closest friend Wintergreen, not to mention what he had done to his own daughter.
Yet with all the unfortunate and all the bullets and blows he has taken, he still remains the same man that even the Justice League fear. He walks the earth as a gun for hire, the one that offers the biggest price may hire the best mercenary that ever existed, though whoever is crazy enough to do so better be ready to handle one of the most dangerous men alive.

Can't help but be awestruck the first time you enter a city that large. Especially when you were raised in a small town - or in his case, live in a poverty-stricken country for its seclusion.
It had been in the dead of winter; the icy winds cut through and chilled Slade to the bone - yet he never noticed. It came more to the fact that he had business to take care of; nothing else mattered.
"So this is Spiderman's city; I prefer Gotham." A bank's alarm hinted at the truth of this matter; his solitaire orb slitting to observe the masked criminals whom drove off with several thousands in American currency. "..Three, two, one."
Through the harsh and icy wind, he saw it: A blue and red blur zip past him with a *thwip* as its ony remnant. "So that's him. They said he was fast." He removed a pocket scope, skimming across the landscape - finally locking onto his target. And so, the hunt began.
