The room had been dark, davoided of any light for what seemed like hours, so when a single bulb was switched on, it felt like he was face to face with the sun itself. He didn't know how long he had been there, nor anything after the plane he and his partner had been trying to save, exploded. All he cold remember was Bucky trying to defuse the bomb that had been placed there by the infamous Red Skull, his greatest enemy, before everything went up in a ball of fire.
It was 1944, and the Nazis were being driven out of the other countries by the Allies, the four great nations of Great Britain, America, Russia, and of course Atlantis. Germany was on the verge of defeat, it's capitol Berlin being bombed around the clock by British and American Air Forces, while Russian and American forces on the ground mopped up any resistances they found, quite easily. In a move of desperation, Hitler had his most trusted agents sneak into an Allies island base off the coast of Denmark, where an experimental new unmanned drone plane was being developed by Howard Stark. This drone could be piloted by a remote control, with a range of over 200 hundred miles, effectively ending the need involve people in war, or atleast the people of the nation using the drone anyway. This was a threat Hitler and his Nazis could not afford.
Thanks to a spy inside of the base, the Red Skull and his small group were able to slip inside with forged ids, and make their way into the Control Room, where they quickly slaughtered everyone else in there with newly developed HYDRA rifles that used plasma energy bolts to vaporize all organic targets. They were virtually silent to most human ears. Most.
Thanks to his enhanced senses, Captain America, heard the blasts, from three rooms away, two floors above, and through four inch walls of reinforced steel. Though he didn't recognize the sound the weapons made, his gut told him to check it out. Nodding to Bucky, and grabbing his trusted shield, the two of them quickly and stealthily made their way to the Control Room door, where Captain America smelled the stench of burned flesh. All to aware that they were probably heading into a trap, he crouched down, placed his shield infront of himself, and like a living battering ran, leaped forward and smashed through the door, sending it flying off it's henge's and into two of the Red Skull's henchmen, crushing them. "Well Bucky, it looks like we've stumbled on a bed of snakes." The look on the Skull's face and his henchmen was one of both shock and fear, telling the man that they weren't expecting him.
"Well you know what they say chum, if you got an infestation, best to burn it out." Captain America smiled, as his partner pulled out a flamethrower, one that he neither had when they entered the room, nor had he seen before that moment. In his hesitation, and seeing their opening, the Red Skull pushed a dark red button on the center of the console, before he and his henchmen jumped up on said console, and then through the room's viewing window, and down onto a metal platform about ten feet below, where they quickly recovered and made their way towards the drone, while a computerized voice began a twenty second count down. Not wanting to lose sight of their prey, Captain America ran for the broken out window, and followed them. "Come on, Bucky!" Though he still didn't understand why it felt wrong for his partner to have the flamethrower, or why the voice sounded so strange, his instincts told him to ignore those doubts and focus on stopping his opponents. It was almost as though he didn't have a choice, like he was in a movie, watching from the outside.
He hit the platform in a shoulder roll, quickly making it to his feet, before running off after his prey, who by this time had already climbed onto the drone, their boots and gloves somehow sticking to it's metal surface. He hurled his shield at one of the henchmen, cutting him in half, his dead body falling off, as the weapon returned to him like always. Another one fell off, this time courtesy of Bucky and his Luger, while they both continued running towards the drone. As they reached their target, the voice hit zero, and the drone's thrusters ignited, mere seconds after the they reached the drone and grabbed hold of it's fin, their super strength just enough to allow them to hold on. Wait, since when do I, or Bucky for that matter, have super strength? And why is Bucky black? Something isn't right here. Captain America thought to himself, as his body seemed to move on it's own, yet again.
In his mind, he knew this wasn't suppose to be happening, it was impossible, but at the same time, it also felt like this had happen before, too. Before he really was aware of it, Bucky had made his way to a strange, rectangle box that the Red Skull had placed there moments before, and despite his earlier show of strength, the young hero seemed unable to pry it lose. Still unsure of what exactly was happening, Captain America's body lunged yanked it's self forward, as the drone began to level off, and the box erupted in a ball of fire, engulfing Bucky, The Red Skull, and his two remaining henchmen. "Bucky!!!!" As he screamed those words, he could feel the heat from the flames grow more and more distant, as he fell further, and further away, before everything went black.
As his senses returned to him, he could feel something hard, cold, and solid against his back, except for his left hand. He tried to move, but found something was pinning him down. Because of the bright light in his eyes, he couldn't see anything other than vague shapes of people standing around him. He could, however, make out what they were saying. "He's awake, someone get Citizen V in here!" He was stripped down, wearing only lose fitting boxer shorts, though he was more focused on the name, Citizen V. He recognized, but just couldn't remember where.
