Physically: Following his injuries sustained after project Ragna Rok, Kroenen had his pierced heart replaced by a mystical clockwork version which was mentally linked to his brain. This enabled him to control his cardiovascular functions, and therefore speed up or slow down his heartbeat, or fake his own death by causing it to beat so fast or so slowly that it cannot be heard or felt. It also offers him a few extra abilities: Kroenen can push himself beyond human capacity and lift more than two tons. Although he has not really been shown lifting great weights, his strength was great enough to let him cut right through stone and most metals. Can run at speeds of about 55 miles per hour.
Kroenen's ability to perfectly control his own heartbeat prevents his muscles from producing fatigue toxins and therefore grant him near limitless stamina. An incredible reaction time and has been shown dodging bullets, and can also deflect them with swords. He does this with such pinpoint dexterity, accuracy and coordination that he was capable of deflecting bullets back at the police, killing them.
His coordination, balance, agility and flexibility is also superhuman, allowing him to perform complex acrobatic feats. Due to Kroenen's clockwork heart directly supporting his body, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen's blood no longer circulated and has now dried up inside his veins, leaving only dust, and allowing him to absorb most impacts and be invulnerable to bullets and powerful punches. It also supports the rest of his organs, preventing them from losing effectiveness, allowing him to keep his youthful vigor and vitality into his centennial years.
Master Swordsman, Master Martial Artist, Accurate Marksman, Weapons Specialist.
Mentally:
Kroenen is a brilliant mechanic and inventor, whose inventions have included his own superhuman clockwork heart, a prosthetic mechanical hand, a virtually indestructible gas mask, and many others. Which pairs well with his knowledge of medical sciences. Karl is highly trained in the use of both theoretical and practical occult magic, and is considered a medium level mage. Although he mainly uses magic in the form of rituals and potions, but is also competent with spellcasting, though rarely does.
He is an adept leader and inspiring commander, who has often been selected as a favorite commander for many warlords such as Adolf Hitler and Grigori Rasputin.
Weaknesses
Kroenen revels in pain and can keep going long after the pain would stop a normal human, Making him less likely to dodge a direct attack but meet it head on. Seperation from his artificial heart's driver gear will prove fatal to Kroenen. Despite his immortality, he also has a severe fear of germs, which is why he wears a gasmask and protective suit.
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: It would not be far from the truth to say that Kroenen does not exhibit any form of personality. He rarely speaks or even utters a sound, even as he fights and kills. He is cold, ruthless, calm and calculating, so much so that he seems like a machine to those who meet him. Despite this he has been seen to express emotion as his malicious nature and dark entertainments draw him out of his 'shell'. He is, in short, a very, very bad person. Kroenen, however, as a teenager, he loathed his awkwardness and may have developed an extreme form of body dysmorphic disorder. He conducted a series of brutal experiments due to his surgical addiction, in which he surgically removed his own eyelids and lips. He later designed a tight-fitting gas mask to filter out germs and hide his disfigured face.
History: In 1930, he met the resurrected monk Grigori Rasputin for the first time. Obsessed with purity, Kroenen quickly became Rasputin’s most loyal disciple. He subsequently joined the Nazi Party, and rose quickly through the ranks, joining the Schutzstaffel in 1933 and achieving the rank of Obersturmbannführer (Lieutenant Colonel). He was awarded the Iron Cross for services to the Third Reich. Kroenen became head of the Thule Society, a group of German aristocrats obsessed with the occult. He helped them to spearhead Project Ragna Rok, engineering the portal generator that would conjure the Scarlet Beast, Hellboy, in October 1944.
When Allied Forces stormed the island off the coast of Scotland where Project Ragna Rok took place, Kroenen lost his left hand trying to retrieve an active grenade thrown by a young Professor Trevor Bruttenholm. When the grenade exploded, a length of shrapnel impaled Kroenen through the chest. Shortly thereafter, he disappeared.
After Kroenen's disappearance, records were found of his experiments on fusing steel to bone. This is further evidence of Kroenen's philosophy that humanity’s future lay in the marriage of flesh and machine. In 1956, an unmarked grave in Romania was found. Dental records identified the remains as those of Kroenen. However, Kroenen reappeared in 2004.
Using a mixture of occult magic and clockwork, Kroenen created a prosthetic heart and left hand. By cranking the key-like mechanism where his heart should be, he effectively was able to wind up his wrists, allowing him to wield his tonfa swords with superhuman skill and precision. He could also turn the key to "switch off" his body (literally), remaining in a dormant state and appearing dead, until his masters, the Ogdru Jahad, reanimated him. He used this deceptive technique to infiltrate the BPRD headquarters.
A ruthless and cunning assassin, Kroenen was responsible for the deaths of countless people, including scores of Allied Troops, as well as Hellboy’s father figure, Trevor Bruttenholm. He also critically wounded Agent Clay of the BPRD. In Kroenen’s lair beneath Rasputin’s mausoleum in Moscow, Hellboy seemingly avenged Bruttenholm's death by throwing Kroenen into his own trap, a spiked pit hidden beneath a trapdoor. Skewered on the stakes, the undead Kroenen then watched helplessly as Hellboy dropped a giant cog on top of him.
Left to his own devices for some time, Kroenen eventually managed to shift the cog enough to give him space to work at breaking the spikes on which he was impaled. After a few days of constant struggle, Kroenen eventually freed himself and managed to repair the damage that was done to his body.

Somewhere around Eastern Europe. Before the events of Project Ragna Rok.
A solitary figure stood atop a hill overlooking an expanse of snow covered ruins. Flakes of snow fell gently to the ground all around him, dancing as they descended with grace. However, the snow almost seemed to be avoiding the solitary figure, and the epaulets on his long black leather coat seemed devoid of the white that covered the landscape around him. "Colonel Kroenen!" A grizzled looking soldier, clad in arctic warfare gear, approached the dark figure on the hilltop. His German accent cut through the light winds as he addressed Herr Kroenen, before saluting respectfully.
"Colonel, we think we've found it!" There was excitement in the man's voice, though an undercurrent of fear flowed out beneath the words.
The battle hardened soldier did not seem to be a man who would be so easily worried. Whatever had him so concerned was likely to be very dangerous indeed. The figure in the black leather coat turned on his heels towards the trooper, revealing his face. Beneath a black, peaked cap, his face was hidden behind the mat-black surface of an unusual gas mask. The colonel fixed the man with a keen stare from behind the reflective black surface of his mask's goggles, as keen a stare as any man could dream of.
Herr Kroenen returned the salute in a rapid and almost mechanical motion, before he set off down the hill towards the ruins. Several teams of his well trained and well paid soldiers were combing the snow-covered ruins here, and apparently they had found what they were looking for - the door to a tomb lost in the pages of history, a tomb that had not seen the light of day for thousands of years. Suddenly, Herr Kroenen stopped in his tracks. The soldier walking behind him stopped dead and looked around nervously, concern evident on his features.
The masked man cocked his head and looked about him slowly, surveying the frozen landscape nearby. Seeing nothing, and not wishing to make his feelings known to any who might be watching, the Colonel continued, and his man followed. Whether it was from the forest, across the fields or upon a snowy hilltop, he felt as if he were being watched. . .
