What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Formally, John had was die-hard patriot, always following orders to the letter, despite what his personal opinion might be, no matter the consequence. In his eyes, you were either loyal to America, or you should be killed, no inbetween. His dress, mannerisms, and outlook on life was very Regan Republican, which rubbed most of his colleagues in the hero community the wrong way.
He was raised in a small Georgia town, where they prayed and said the Pledge of Allegiance proudly, took care of their neighbors, and went to church every time their was a service. He'd gladly help women and children, or any noncombatant if he felt they needed it, but wasn't above yelling or punching them if he felt they needed it, either. He was opinionated, but didn't care what you or anyone else thought about anything. He was also a firm believe in the 'Survival of the Strongest', and even though he'd risk his own safety and life for you, if he thought you were a lost cause or would hurt a mission, he had no problem leaving you behind.
Now, he is basically a thoughtless machine, programmed to carryout his superiors' orders, with no will of his own.
History: John grew up idolizing his older brother, who had been killed during the Vietnam War. He went into military service but felt he wasn't a 'hero' like his brother was. Walker underwent the Power Broker process to compete in the Universal Class Wrestling Federation. However, his agent convinced him that he should become a hero.
He became the Super-Patriot, arguing that he stood for America's 'true ideals' and began to publicly discredit Captain America. Three 'Bold Urban Commandos', fellow recruits from the Federation, assisted him by staging attacks and intimidating others.
Captain America later abandoned his identity due to Red Skull's manipulation of the Commission on Superhuman Activities. Walker took the role as Captain America, moderating his views. The man who would later become Battlestar served as his Bucky. The other two BUCs became Left-Winger and Right-Winger.
Left-Winger and Right-Winger publicly revealed Walker's name leading up to the Watchdogs killing his parents. Walker retaliated by killing most of the Watchdogs. He captured Left-Winger and Right-Winger and used his old 'torchsword' to ignite explosives they were strapped to, leaving them horribly burnt and in comas. As a member of the Jury
Eventually there was a confrontation with Captain America who was then calling himself the Captain. Walker was stopped by Rogers. The two confronted the Red Skull, who had been manipulating the Commission. In light of these events, Walker was deemed unworthy of the Captain America title due to his actions.
Walker's death was soon faked by a member of the Commission and he re-emerged as US Agent. He has served on the Avengers West Coast and Force Works. Working for his old Commission ties has led him into conflict with other heroes. Walker seems to have finally cut ties with them after one mission put him into conflict with War Machine and Hawkeye.
He was hired by Edwin Cord to lead the Jury against the Thunderbolts. While working for STARS, he stumbled upon the Ruul's plot to turn Earth into a galactic prison.
Walker joined the new Invaders squad acting as its Captain America; he in fact demanded to be called by that name. Those Invaders who knew the real Captain America refused to do so. He claimed that today's world requires a tougher symbol of America to battle terrorism. Alongside the Invaders he battled Axis Mundi. When the Human Torch (Jim Hammond) was killed, most of the team disbanded.
Walker favored superhuman registration. He was assigned to Canada as an official liaison-- A number of powered villains, including the Purple Man, attempted to cross the border into Canada to escape the act.
He was recruited without warning by a seemingly recovered Scarlet Witch to a new team of Mighty Avengers. The Scarlet Witch was actually Loki in disguise.
After his defeat at the hands of Darksied, and the loss of his right hand, John was sent to Metropolis General Hospital, where after being stabilized, was kidnapped by HAMMER agents under the order of Norman Osborn, where his hand was replaced with a bionic one, composed of titanium-steel. His memory was wiped and computer chips and nanites were placed inside of his body to ensure that his new superiors had full control over his every action. He was given William Burnside's 'Captain America' uniform and shield, after his own vibranium one was lost, and once again took the title of Captain America.

Beep, beep, beep. That was the sound that could be heard, from the little box, conneded to him, by a few wires. He was unconsious, no memories of who he was, no emotion to show, just a body. At one time he was a Marine, a son, a brother, and a hero. Saddly, that was a lifetime ago, for the man once known as John Walker.
Though the room he was lying in was dark, he was not alone, as he was being watch by two people. "Will he remember who he was?" The man's face was obscured in darkness, until he struck a match on the wall, to light a cigar already on his lips, revaling the face of Norman Osborn, the leader of the organzation known as HAMMER. The other person, who once spoke up, was revealed to be a woman. "No Director. Though he is flesh and blood, save for his left hand, he is essentially just a robot. His mind is a complete black, ready to be re-written, as you see fit." The woman's words carried no emotions, as though she were also viod of them, though her eyes showed some hesitance, which was not picked up by her suppiorer. Both of them looked on at the bandaged and prone body, lying in the hospital type bed for a few minutes, until Osborn chose to speak again. "Good. See to it that the chips are implanted, and as soon as he is ready for the field, notifiy me." The woman only nodded, as he turned and left the room.
