Charles Xavier had a dream, one that included rebuilding the island of Genosha. Genosha was the one place that Xavier truly believed that one day humans and mutants could work together and co-exist peacefully. Some considered Xavier to be a visionary leader attempting to inspire change, while others believed that he was a foolish idealist chasing an elusive dream. Xavier risked his life, determined to make his dream a reality. An inspiring dream he shared with a passion which translated through his teachings and has become a life mission to unite the world.
Genosha was suppose to be some nice “green and pleasant island nation” known for its high standard of living, an excellent economy led by advanced technology companies, freedom from the political and racial turmoil that characterized neighboring nations, and ample food and space for all…or at least that’s how it was advertised in the brochure.
However, there’s an old saying, “Some dreams are too good to be true and too true to be good.” Genosha turned out to be anything but a mutant utopia. It was all just a front created by the Genoshan government so that their genetic engineers could further their research on the mutant gene. The citizens of Genosha became human subjects of genetic testing to determine if they possess the mutant gene. The humans were allowed to continue on living their lives, the mutants became the property of the island of Genosha. The mutant population became slaves used to conduct further experiments to identify and modify the molecular structure and function of the mutant gene.
Not long afterwards civil war broke out on the island. No one knows for sure who or what started the war between the humans and mutants. Some say it was over civil rights, slavery and freedom, exile and independence, things of that nature. Either way the Genoshan government found themselves in an inevitable situation. Then that’s when Magneto and his band of misfits seeking retaliation began attacking the island. Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants proceeded to march through the streets of Genosha, killing the humans and those that opposed his quest for mutant supremacy. The United Nations responded by sending in the Sentinels to reestablish order and peace. The government told the public that the Sentinels were place on Genosha to serve and protect. It was all a bunch of lies! Once the war was over the remaining survivors were cut off from humanity. Hundreds of Sentinels formed a containment wall surrounding the island, patrolling the waters to make sure no one made it on or off the island. The Sentinels were sent to the island to eliminate any survivors.
