"Thank You Miss Starr, I really enjoyed chatting with you today and I'm looking forward to hearing back from you."
The young, beautiful blonde haired prospective employee said as she was exiting the some-what simple but tasteful office of one Karen Starr, CEO of Starrware Labs, a leading developer of new technology for consumer application and the betterment of humanity. She's about 5 foot even, meaning Karen, who is 6 foot even, towers over her and as Karen slowly closes the door with a smile on her face, she wonders if she'll ever be able to fill the position, since that girl is definitely not getting hired. Karen sighs as she leans against the door for a brief moment. That's the 15th applicant today that didn't measure up.
The office is modest, unlike other CEO's, who tend to decorate their offices for a variety of reasons usually involving ego, money or power. Karen simply hasn't had time, even in 3 years of running this company, to devote any effort towards that. The room itself is a rectangle corner office on the top floor, the two walls are different colors, one is baby blue, the other is pink, there is no carpet, instead the floors are hard wood, a very simple light brown. Two couches, one on each wall, four chairs sit in front of Karen's huge glass desk which is filled up with all sorts of interesting technology and prototype designs, paperwork and a very very fancy looking computer. There are a few shelves along the walls that house a very impressive snow globe collection, a few of these snow globes decorate Karen's desk.
At the far end of the office there is a slightly out of place access panel. The panel opens and leads to an elevator shaft that isn't in use, for good reason too, behind this panel is the entrance to the roof, the loby and every other floor on the 26 floor building and another entrance to Karen's own answer to the bat cave. It's a secret lab where Karen does most of her detective work. Ever since she and Bruce became such good friends, she tends to lean on the side of police work and solving problems the old fashioned way. She still uses her fists and other krytponian abilities all the time, and her psuedo side kick nick Cho, who runs the little computer filled "PG-cave" is a huge help. Speaking of Nick.
"Well? Are you going to Hire her? You know for every candidate I send you, I've interviewed about a dozen more."
A voice comes from an intercom on Karen's desk. Karen walks towards it. She's wearing a skin tight button up pink long sleeve business shirt with the top button undone and the sleeves rolled up. Her pants are some thing similar to Yoga pants, with pink and black plaid rubber boots. The dress at the upper level at Starrware Labs is obviously very business casual. Her hair is short and doesn't touch her shoulders, it's a gorgeous blonde that contrasts her lovely blue eyes in an almost designed sort of way. With the top button on her shirt undone, there's a fair amount of cleavage thanks to Karen's impressively large breasts. No high-beams though, thanks to an equally impressive victoria's secret bra, which is utterly hidden under the smart looking button up shirt.
"I don't think so Nick, her credentials are great but she hasn't got any work experience. Plus I think the only reason you want to hire her is so you'll finally have some one in the office that's shorter than you are."
The teasing tone in her voice shows just how close she and Nick are. Which is very. They're great friends, Nick sat up watching terrible horror movies all night once while Karen cried her eyes out when her last girlfriend left her for good. He's the only person in the entire company that knows she's Powergirl and he helps her on a day to day bases as her semi-secret informant, using his incredible skills as a hacker to obtain information from various databases around the world while Karen is in the field. the two maintain almost constant contact while Karen is Powergirl, if she needs to know something, he is almost always available to look it up for her. They're intelectual equals and make a great team when fighting the good fight.
"That's not very funny Karen!"
Nick retorted back with a playfully hurt tone of voice. Karen snaps right back at him in a girlishly cute, but slightly apologetic tone.
"Well, maybe not, but it's at least sorta funny."
Nick responds in turn with a playful tone, but his second statement becomes more serious.
"Okay, I will grant that it is sorta funny. Seriously though, I like her and I'm tired of being distracted by this search for an assistant. I know you're worried about the new girl figuring out your secret identity, but trust me, I'm your information broker, it's what I practically do for a living now and I'm good at what I do."
Nick's right, it isn't so much the lack of experience as it is Karen being worried about somebody figuring out who she is. Nick needs an assistant, his work load is starting to bother him and it was Karen's idea in the first place to get him one. Karen might make an excuse, a valid one all the same, but still just an excuse, to placate her real worry and Nick knows this because he's practically Karen's best friend.
