The war was going badly for the Corps, all the Corps, and after Hal and Sinestro had their face off with Doom, he began to understand the true depth of the situation they were in. He knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that if he wanted to win, he had to take matters into his own hand, though he knew there would be sever consequences for his actions. His only desire, his only concern was to protect his friends and family. To make sure Carol, Julia, and Jack and his family survived this, and stayed free of Doom's oppression.
He had his ring lock onto their unique energy signatures, and as he suspected, they were on Oa, in the Guardians' Citadel, which would have deterred most, but with what was at stake, Hal could not allow himself to be deterred, or be stopped, by his 'masters', nor by anyone else, not with so much at stake. He flew through the sky of Oa, his will pushing the ring to match Barry's speed, knowing speed was the essence, it was the only way to avoid any fights, to prevent himself from repeating what happened, when he was possessed by Parallax, but if he had too, he would fight. He phased through the Citadel's walls, and headed for where the Guardians had Ion, safe and under their protection, or so they thought, in the Central Battery. He landed infront of it, acting as though he was about to simply recharge his ring.
Looking around, to make sure that no one was around, he leaped into the battery itself, knowing he would only have a matter of seconds, if he was to actually succeed. Surrounded by a pool of green light, he spotted what he had come there for, Ion. He glided towards to whale-looking entity, who seemed to understand his plan, and 'swam' towards him, the two of them meeting, in an explosion on energy and light, merging them into a single being. It took only seconds, though time seemed to stand still, so Hal wasn't certain how long he had actually been inside, when he finally stepped out, only to be surrounded by the Guardians and members of his Corps, all ready to attack. He remained silent, before unleashing a powerful energy wave, which emerged from his body, and expanded outward, knocking everyone onto the ground, before flying out of the Citadel, trying to avoid a fight, if at all possible.
