A young woman sat next to Koyuki, causing her to look away from her brother. "Lane... Oh! You're the reporter from Metropolis," she said. "I'm Koyuki."
Lois smiled as she dangled her feet in the water she was a bit impressed to know that the young girl knew who she was, considering most kids her age could careless about the news, the fact that the 16 years old recognized her at all was impressive at least to Lois. He'll there were some adults who didn't know who she was. "Yes, I am 'that' Lois Lane...It's nice to meet you Koyuki." Lois replied, then noticed Koyuki look back at her brother briefly before answering Lois' earlier question.
"The party's wonderful..." Koyuki said quietly, looking at the water. "It's just... Fuyuki's been here four years before I came... I haven't seen him since we were twelve, and then I came here and... He's taller than me now... And he's just... So different..." She sighed softly. "I suppose I am too, though." She looked up and met his eyes. His head tilted sideways, and Koyuki shook her head.
If there was one thing about Lois she was a perceptive and good listener. She could read between the lines at the young girl's concerns and could honestly sympathize with her as she'd had similar feelings about her sister Lucy and herself. So,she understood all too well the wish for things to be the way they once were and in Lois' case, to still have that closeness with her sister as having grown up apart from one another made that rift a little wider between them.
"I know how that feels. My sister and I were really close before my mother died but then she went to boarding school and I moved from one military base to another with my father. We would see each other for holidays and things but it just seemed each time she came back part of her was different, like I didn't know her like I used to. And it was hard for me because we used to be close." Lois confessed. "But hey, he's here with you now. Give it some time and you'll see that person you remembered will still be there. He's just growing into himself, like you are. Change isn't always so bad."
'Nandemonai' Lois noticed Koyuki mouth at her brother to which he nodded and got ready to dive again.
<Nevermind what?> Lois asked in Japanese having understood the word Koyuki mouthed to her brother. Or we'll she thought she understood. From what it looked like she said to Lois it was 'Nandemonai'.
<I was a military brat and we travelled a lot so I lived and went to school in Okinawa when my father was stationed there as well as in Tokyo when he was on base there, so I sorta picked up the language, though my accent is probably pretty terrible, I'd imagine> Lois replied, continuing to speak in Japanese just because she hadn't done it in a while and it actually was a nice change.
<If you don't mind me asking, what prompted the move here to the US?>
